22nd of November 5-A-Side-Soccer Tournament

A whistle blowing day with a difference

What lights up a soccer stadium? A soccer match!!
Well it may not have been in the stadium of light, but this year, the 5-Aside-Soccer event took place in the amazing complex of the National Maritime College Ireland at Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.
Numbers continue to grow for this popular event, with 11 teams from every corner of the Diocese battling for the prestigious C.D.Y.C. trophy and more importantly, bragging rights for the next 12 months!
A fun day was had by the young and more mature (no names mentioned!!), with games and food being provided for during the day.
Soccer stars included players from all over Cork who were determined to clench this championship title!!  Clean games throughout the day were had, with the final friendly match showing a near red card to none other than Mark Dunwoody who got slightly carried away with the footy skills of Rev. McCarthy!!
The day was finished off by Mark giving a short thought to us all and encouraging  all present to reach out and make a difference in others peoples’ lives, whether in School, work or home.
Congratulations on a triumphant victory to David Tracy, David McCarthy, Patrick Healy, John Foley and Cody. This was their first year entering as a team for Douglas and in their own words “will be back next year to defend their title”!!

A special thanks to everyone who made this event possible.  As usual a great day with great people!
