CONFIRMATION MORNING
7TH MARCH 2009
Over 100 young people who are going to be confirmed in the Diocese this year gathered bleary eyed and bushy tailed in the Canon Packard Hall at 10am.
The morning commenced with a welcome from the Bishop and a brief outline on what was happening. We then had a couple of games designed to get everyone relaxed, including a one arm banana eating contest! Yes it was unusual but Rev Ian Jonas pointed out that it was Fairtrade fortnight and that there were people all over Ireland eating bananas in support of fair trade.
The young people were then split into four groups and attended four workshops looking at the themes of; Prayer, What is confirmation? Teamwork and how to live as a Christian.
We all came together for a short service which including a very enthusiastic! Ben Johnson leading us in a song.
The morning finished with minerals and chocolate bars (Thanks Diane Ross;).
To sum it up; The Confirmation Morning was a huge success in many different ways. Sometimes our young people can have the perception of feeling isolated and that there aren’t “many young people about” but the morning gave them a chance to see the bigger picture and gave them a greater sense of confidence in their identity as young Christians.
So a big Thank-you to the Bishop for initiating the event and for all the youth leaders, clergy, parents and young people for giving up their free time.
Mark.
